The Rookmere Survey — Printable Detective Case

A town celebration approaches. Its records tell a less cheerful story.

The director of the Survey House Trust is found dead before the unveiling of a restored town survey. Three people used the east corridor. Contracts, staff accounts and a disputed clock leave a set of records that cannot all be read at face value.

Clear a space on the table and follow the connections. Interviews, financial papers, correspondence and a floor plan let you reconstruct the opportunity, test motives and explain why the other suspects can be ruled out.

Case 001 in Rookmere Case Files is a complete, standalone mystery. You can start here without playing an earlier case. The task is to support your conclusion with evidence, not simply pick a suspect.

The player file brings together the briefing, 22 evidence documents and a Case Questions sheet. Three graduated hints and a reasoned solution are kept in separate files. Print just one size: 31 pages including help and answers.

How to play

1. Read the briefing, then spread out or arrange the evidence.
2. Cross-check the documents and write answers to the Case Questions.
3. Open the separate hints if needed, then compare your reasoning with the solution.

For your next mystery evening

For 1 or more adult players, with an estimated playing time of 60–90 minutes. That is a planning estimate based on reading and comparison, not a timed playtest. Bring paper and a pencil; spare paper and a calculator are optional. No host, acting, cutting or outside research is required.

Print and play

Choose Letter or A4 and print at actual size, preferably one-sided for comparing documents. Grayscale printing works. You can also read the static PDFs on screen and keep notes separately; they are not fillable forms. The main surprise belongs to the first solve.

Digital download only; no physical case box, documents or props are shipped. Written in US English. All characters and events are fictional. Content includes murder, financial misconduct and strained relationships, without graphic imagery. For personal, noncommercial play; do not redistribute or resell the files.
