Book Sleeve and Bookmark Crochet Pattern — English PDF

Crochet a two-tone book sleeve and a slim matching bookmark in Sage and Oatmeal. The sleeve folds from one long rectangle with two side seams and an open top; the fine-thread bookmark sits between the pages without a tassel or charm.

How to use / Who it's for: intermediate crocheters ready to measure, calculate and baste before final sewing, using ch, sc through both loops, turned rows, colour changes, fine-thread crochet and whipstitch seams. Use smooth DK cotton about 100-125 m per 50 g with a 3.0 mm starting hook for the sleeve, and much finer size 10 cotton about 250-280 m per 50 g with a 1.5 mm starting hook for the bookmark. Add tape, ruler, needle, markers, pins or clips, scissors and basting thread. Work from your actual book and washed gauge.

Good to know: the default 39-stitch by 126-row sleeve uses 22 sc and 28 rows per 10 cm: raw width about 17.7 cm, folded outer depth 22.5 cm and estimated clear flat width 16.8 cm after the one-column side seams. Book thickness affects usable depth. Allow DK Oatmeal 180-200 m (72-100 g) and Sage 25-30 m (10-15 g), plus Oatmeal 60 m and Sage 25 m for the separate large 40-stitch by 50-row swatch. The default 9-stitch by 60-row bookmark is about 2.25 by 15 cm at 40 sc and 40 rows per 10 cm; allow fine-thread Oatmeal 11-13 m (2-3 g) and Sage 3-4 m (about 1 g), plus about 10 m per separate thread sample. Planning estimates include tails, sleeve seams and reserve; larger counts need more. Size, thickness and use vary. Baste and check your actual book.
